Sonoma County summers regularly reach the 90s and even triple digits, making ceiling fans an essential comfort feature for homes throughout Windsor, Santa Rosa, Healdsburg, Rohnert Park, Petaluma, Sonoma, and Sebastopol. A properly installed ceiling fan can make a room feel 4-6 degrees cooler, reducing your air conditioning costs by up to 40%. In winter, reversing the fan direction circulates warm air from the ceiling back down into the living space.
Eleos Electric installs ceiling fans safely and correctly, starting at $195 for labor (fan cost is additional). This isn't a job for a handyman — ceiling fans require a fan-rated electrical box capable of supporting the weight and vibration of a spinning fan, proper wiring with the correct gauge and connections, and secure mounting to structural framing. An improperly installed ceiling fan can fall from the ceiling, cause electrical fires, or create annoying wobbling and noise.
The most critical component of any ceiling fan installation is the electrical box. Standard light fixture boxes are rated for 50 pounds of static weight, but ceiling fans generate dynamic loads (vibration and rotational forces) that require a fan-rated box. These boxes are either mounted directly to a ceiling joist or secured with an expandable brace bar that spans between joists. We never install a ceiling fan on a standard fixture box — it's a safety hazard and a code violation.
If you're replacing an existing light fixture with a fan, we remove the old box and install a fan-rated box. If there's no existing fixture where you want the fan, we run new wiring from the nearest power source and install the box from scratch. For homes with attic access above the installation point, this is a straightforward process. For rooms without attic access (like a first floor with a room above), we use remodel-style fan brace bars that fit through the existing ceiling hole.
Most ceiling fans include both a fan motor and a light kit. Ideally, each is controlled independently — you might want the light on but the fan off, or vice versa. This requires either a two-switch setup (separate wall switches for fan and light) or a remote control system. We install both options depending on your preference and the existing wiring in your home.
Many older Sonoma County homes only have a single switch controlling the ceiling fixture location. We can add a second switch for independent fan/light control, or we can install a wireless remote receiver inside the fan canopy that provides full control without any additional wall wiring — a popular option in Petaluma and Santa Rosa homes where running new wire through finished walls would be disruptive.
Swapping a light fixture for a ceiling fan is our most common fan installation scenario. We remove the existing fixture, upgrade the electrical box to a fan-rated box, install the new fan bracket and downrod, connect the wiring, and test the installation. For rooms with standard 8-foot ceilings, we recommend flush-mount or low-profile fans. For rooms with 9-foot or higher ceilings (common in newer construction in Windsor and Rohnert Park), a downrod-mounted fan provides optimal air circulation.
For covered patios, porches, and outdoor living areas, we install damp-rated and wet-rated ceiling fans designed to withstand Sonoma County's weather conditions. These fans use sealed motors, stainless steel hardware, and weather-resistant blades. Combined with the county's mild evenings, an outdoor ceiling fan extends your patio season and keeps bugs at bay.

Standard installs where a ceiling fan box already exists run $175–$275. New installs that require running a circuit, cutting in a new fan-rated box, or working with vaulted ceilings run $375–$650.
Yes. This requires a new circuit or tap off an existing one, a fan-rated support box, and drywall work to patch the cut. Eleos handles all three — including the drywall prep — as part of the quote.
Yes. Down-rod length is sized for the ceiling height, and we use fan-rated sloped-ceiling adapters where required. Cathedral ceilings often need a scaffold; that's included in the quote.
Yes. Modern fans commonly use a handheld remote plus a wall-mounted remote holder; Eleos can also wire dual-switch (separate fan and light) or a smart-control with HomeKit/Alexa integration.
Yes — old fan removal and disposal is included at no extra cost on every install.
