Working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are the cheapest life-safety insurance in your home — and the most commonly neglected. Battery-only units get disabled when they chirp, older detectors quietly age past their rated life, and many Sonoma County homes were built before interconnected hardwired detection was required. When one alarm can't trigger the others, you lose the early warning that matters most at night.
Eleos Electric installs and replaces hardwired, interconnected smoke and carbon monoxide detectors throughout Windsor, Santa Rosa, Healdsburg, Rohnert Park, Petaluma, Sonoma, and Sebastopol. We place every unit to current California code, wire them so they all sound together, and add sealed battery backup — so your home is protected and ready for sale or transfer.
We wire detectors together so that when one senses smoke, every alarm in the home sounds. This interconnection is required in new construction and major remodels, and it's the single biggest upgrade to your family's overnight warning time.
Combination units protect against both smoke and carbon monoxide — the colorless, odorless gas produced by furnaces, water heaters, and attached garages. We install combo detectors where code and good practice call for them.
Smoke detectors have a service life of about ten years from their manufacture date, and CO detectors even less. We replace aged and chirping units with modern sealed 10-year detectors so you're not climbing ladders to change batteries.
For new construction, additions, and rewires, we design and install a complete interconnected detection system positioned to code on every level and in every required location.
We bring rentals, ADUs, and commercial spaces into compliance with detector requirements so landlords and owners meet their obligations and pass inspection.
California requires smoke alarms inside every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the home, including basements. Carbon monoxide alarms are required outside each sleeping area and on every level of any home with a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace, or attached garage. Detectors are also required to be present and working at the point of sale or transfer of a property.
Beyond placement, age matters: most smoke detectors are only rated for about ten years, after which their sensors degrade. If you can't remember when yours were installed, they're likely overdue. We check the date on every existing unit and tell you honestly what needs to be replaced — no upsell on detectors that still have life left.

Answers
Most smoke detectors are rated for about ten years from their date of manufacture, and carbon monoxide detectors often less. After that the sensors degrade and may not respond reliably. If you don't know how old yours are, it's worth having them checked — we read the date on every unit during our visit.
Interconnected hardwired detectors are required in new construction and when a home undergoes certain major remodels or additions. In older homes, battery or hardwired stand-alone detectors may be allowed, but interconnection is strongly recommended because it makes every alarm sound at once.
Yes. California requires functioning smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to be present at the point of sale or transfer of a property. We can verify, replace, and document your detectors so your home is compliant for the transaction.
Hardwired detectors draw power from your home's wiring with a battery backup, and they can be interconnected so all alarms sound together. Battery-only detectors are self-contained and easier to retrofit but can't interconnect through wiring and depend entirely on someone keeping the batteries fresh.
Smoke alarms go inside each bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the home. Carbon monoxide alarms go outside sleeping areas and on each level of any home with fuel-burning appliances or an attached garage. We map out the required locations for your specific floor plan.
